Food Poisoning Incident at Haramaya University According to the second year student of Haramaya University who got interviewed at DireTube internet radio, there has been a food poisoning incident at the Muslim students’ cafeteria on Friday January 31, 2014. The student said that around 200 students have been ill and got medical treatment among whom around ten of them were critically ill. To control the possible student protest following the situation there has been a heavy police force presence in the campus.
But no one was injured; said the student. Since the university is preparing to host this year’s all university games, the students are complaining about the university’s focus been shifted towards the event than the students’ services. Before Friday’s incident there has been protest and demonstrations by the Engineering students of the university.
The students were objecting their being graduating under the Agriculture faculties. In the ensuing conflict between the demonstrating students and the security forces some students were injured.
